About Phytometra viridaria (Clerck, 1759)
Technical description and variation: The wingspan of Phytometra viridaria is 19–20 mm, and the forewing length measures 9–11 mm. The forewings are olive brownish, with deep rosy purple markings on the base of the costa, an outer fascia, and a terminal fascia. The outer fascia varies in width, and a pale line matching the base ground colour lies between the outer and terminal fasciae. The hindwings are olive, with a median band and a terminal darker band that are more or less tinged with purple. In the form ab. fusca Tutt, the purple tints are replaced by dark brown. In ab. aenea Hbn., the ground colour is olive grey or fuscous instead of green. ab. suffusa Tutt is a rare form that is blackish fuscous with an even darker terminal border.
