About Phytometra rhodarialis Walker, 1859

Phytometra rhodarialis, commonly called the pink-bordered yellow, is a moth species belonging to the family Erebidae. It was first formally described by Francis Walker in 1859. This species is distributed from southern Ontario, Canada, and the U.S. states of Missouri and New Hampshire, southward to the U.S. states of Florida and Texas; populations north of this core range likely only occur as strays. The wingspan of this moth measures roughly 20 mm. In Ohio and New Jersey, this species produces two or more generations per year, and produces an even greater number of generations further south. The larvae of Phytometra rhodarialis feed on plants in the Polygala genus. Larvae have successfully been reared on two specific Polygala species: Polygala lutea and Polygala mariana.
