About Phyllodoce breweri (A.Gray) A.Heller

Phyllodoce breweri is a mat-forming shrub that produces many short stems. These stems are densely covered in leathery, evergreen, needle-like leaves. Its inflorescence consists of a cluster of several flowers positioned toward the ends of the stems, with some additional flowers growing below in leaf axils. The flowers are bright purple-pink and cup-shaped, because their petals are fused together except at the very tips, which roll under. At the center of the flower there is a yellow ovary, along with ten long protruding stamens that are tipped with large anthers.
