About Phragmidium violaceum (Schultz) Brockm.
Phragmidium violaceum (Schultz) Brockm. is a plant pathogen that is native to Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. It primarily infects plants belonging to the Rubus genus. It has been used as a biological control agent against invasive blackberry species in Chile, Australia, and New Zealand. In 2005, the pathogen was found growing on Himalayan blackberry plants in Oregon, United States. This accidental introduction does not seem to infect native vegetation, so it gives hope for reducing the negative impact of invasive blackberries in the Pacific Northwest.
