About Photedes captiuncula Treitschke, 1825
Technical description and variation: The wingspan of Photedes captiuncula is 15–18 mm. The forewings are whitish ochreous, with the base and costal area being fulvous and tinged with olive. The median and terminal areas are either simply deeper fulvous, or darkened with blackish scales. The lines are white, thicker in females than in males, and sometimes diffusely expanded on the inner margin. The orbicular and reniform spots are sometimes orange-tawny, or grey brown and obscure, and generally have pale rings. The hindwing is dark fuscous. In expolita Dbld., the common North British form, the forewing is uniform greyish brown; this form is also recorded from Armenia. In tincta Kane, from Ireland (which Staudinger wrongly synonymized under captiuncula), the basal area is grey, the median area is deep pink, and the terminal area is pale glossy pink.
