About Pholiota lignicola (Peck) Jacobsson
The cap of Pholiota lignicola is around 1 to 3 centimeters in diameter. When young, it is campanulate (bell-shaped) or conical, and expands as it matures into a convex, umbonate, or flat shape. The cap is brownish in color. The stipe (stem) measures about 2.5 to 5 centimeters long and 2 to 3.5 millimeters wide. The gills are either adnexed or sinuate, and are brownish in color. This species produces a brown spore print. Pholiota lignicola grows on wood, and produces fruiting bodies during spring and summer. It can be found in forests, or growing on woodchips.
