About Pholiota aurivella (Batsch) P.Kumm.
The cap of Pholiota aurivella can grow up to 16 centimetres (6+1โ4 inches) wide, and ranges in color from bright yellow to golden yellow. When young, the cap is viscid, and bears relatively dark scales. The stem can reach up to 15 cm in length; it is pale, and develops scales closer to its base. When moist, this fungus is sticky or slimy. Reportedly, it tastes like unsweetened marshmallows. This species grows in clusters on live or dead trees. It can be found in native forests in New Zealand, southern Canada, and the United States. It is frequently encountered in the American West and Southwest, especially during late summer and fall.
