About Pholidoptera fallax (Fischer, 1853)
Pholidoptera fallax (Fischer, 1853) is a species of katydid crickets that belongs to the subfamily Tettigoniinae of the family Tettigoniidae. This species occurs primarily in Austria, France, Italy, Romania, Greece, Slovenia, and Switzerland. Adult males of this species reach a body length of 15โ18 millimeters (0.59โ0.71 inches), while adult females grow to 17โ23 millimeters (0.67โ0.91 inches). They can be found from July through October in habitats such as clearings and dry forest edges. Their basic body coloration ranges from dark brownish to pale brown, though some individuals have light purple or reddish bodies. The extended pronotum partially covers the species' short wings, bears a black band, and has whitish lateral margins. The abdomen is thick and yellowish, and the relatively long, pale brown legs have a pattern of dark brown spots on the hind legs. Females have a slightly curved ovipositor that measures approximately 10โ13 millimeters (0.39โ0.51 inches) long.
