About Phlox austromontana Coville

Phlox austromontana Coville is a species of phlox with the common name mountain phlox. It is native to the southwestern United States and Baja California, where it grows in forested and wooded mountain habitats, scrubland, and open areas. It is a mat-forming perennial herb that grows in patches of very short stems. Its lance-shaped leaves, which are no more than 1.5 centimeters long, are arranged in opposite pairs on the short stems. Each stem tip bears a solitary flower as the inflorescence. Flowers may be white, light pink, or lavender, with five rounded lobes, and measure just over one centimeter long.
