About Phlogophora scita (Hübner, 1790)
Phlogophora scita (Hübner, 1790) is a species of moth in the Noctuidae family. It is distributed across most countries of continental Europe, ranging from France eastward to Belarus, Ukraine, and Turkey, and from Germany and Poland southward to Italy and Greece. In the Alps, this species occurs at elevations up to 1,600 meters. The wingspan of Phlogophora scita measures 40 to 48 mm. Adults fly from June to September, with flight timing varying by location. First-instar larvae of this moth feed on a variety of ferns, including species in the genus Dryopteris, Blechnum spicant, and Pteridium aquilinum. Larvae overwinter, then resume feeding on a range of plants in spring, including Viola, Plantago, Crataegus, Prunus spinosa, Rubus idaeus, and Quercus.
