About Phleum phleoides (L.) H.Karst.
Phleum phleoides, commonly known as Boehmer's cat's-tail and purple-stem cat's-tail, is a perennial grass species. It is native to most of Europe, North Africa, and temperate Asia. Its culms are erect, and grow between 10 and 70 centimetres (3.9 to 27.6 inches) in height. Its leaf blades measure 5 to 12 centimetres (2.0 to 4.7 inches) long, and 1 to 3.5 millimetres (0.039 to 0.138 inches) wide. This species can be mistaken for the related Timothy-grass, Phleum pratense. Unlike Timothy-grass, purple-stem cat's-tail prefers lighter soils and grows on chalk downland.
