About Philodryas olfersii (Lichtenstein, 1823)

Philodryas olfersii (Lichtenstein, 1823) has a maximum total length, including its tail, of 1 to 1.5 meters, which equals approximately 40 to 60 inches. The dorsal side of this species is green, while its ventral side is yellowish. Its dorsal scales are smooth, lack apical pits, and are arranged in 19 rows at midbody. P. olfersii is native to southern South America, where its range covers northern Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, and northwestern Paraguay. This species occurs in a wide variety of habitat types, including the Cerrado, Caatinga, forest, forest transition zones, and restinga. It can be found at altitudes ranging from sea level up to 1,700 meters, or 5,600 feet. P. olfersii is an oviparous species. Each of its eggs measures about 5 centimeters, or approximately 2 inches. Clutch size ranges from 4 to 11 eggs, and larger females of this species produce larger clutches than smaller females.
