About Phiale gratiosa C.L.Koch, 1846

Phiale gratiosa shows striking color polymorphism, especially in the patterns of its abdomen. Females have greater variation in their color patterns than males do. This species has been recorded in tropical and subtropical regions of South America. Documented localities include the Brazilian states of São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso, and Amazonas; the Paraguayan departments of San Pedro and Concepción; and the Argentine province of Misiones. P. gratiosa lives in tropical and subtropical forests, and favors open, sunny sites like road verges with dense grass growth. It has been observed among various plants, including Poaceae grasses such as Setaria poiretiana.
