About Phaseolus angustissimus A.Gray
Phaseolus angustissimus A.Gray is a perennial herbaceous vine that grows up to 2 meters long, trailing across rocky, eroded hillsides. This species has distinctively narrow, waxy leaflets, and a very deep, slightly thickened taproot. Its flowers range in color from magenta to purple, and grow facing upward from the ground. It produces small, curved pods that contain 2 to 4 seeds; these seeds have a ridged seed coat, and germination is hypogeal. Field trials conducted in Canada have shown that P. angustissimus has freezing resistance. The Zuni people use this plant by rubbing crushed leaves, blossoms, and powdered root on a child's body as a strengthener.
