Phanogomphus militaris, commonly known as the sulphur-tipped clubtail, is a clubtail dragonfly species that belongs to the Gomphidae family. This species is native to central North America. Until recently, Phanogomphus militaris was classified as a member of the genus Gomphus. In 2017, the former subgenus Phanogomphus was elevated to full genus rank, so this species was reclassified into Phanogomphus. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has assessed Phanogomphus militaris as "LC" or least concern, meaning there is no immediate threat to the species' survival. The species has a stable population, and this IUCN conservation status was most recently reviewed in 2018.
