About Phalanta alcippe (Cramer, 1782)
Wet-season form (male and female): Upperside is bright ochreous. The forewing has two pairs of slender, wavy black bars across the cell, and a similar pair at the end of the cell. A broad, irregular black inner-discal streak extends obliquely outward beyond the cell from the costa to the upper median. Below the cell, this streak is followed by four short narrow streaks: the two upper streaks sit between the medians, and the two lower streaks lie in the sub-median interspace, with an outer medial streak also beyond these four streaks. Further on is a medial discal row of black spots: the two uppermost spots are either lunate and confluent, or separate; the lower four are rounded, with the lowest spot more or less diffused. Between the inner-discal costal streak and this row of spots lies a short black sinuous streak that narrows from the costa to near the upper median. A submarginal sinuous line and black outer border enclose a row of ochreous lunules: the three uppermost lunules are small and obsolescent, the next is more or less dentate, and the lower lunules become increasingly narrow and linear toward the lowest. The hindwing has two slender blackish bars within the cell, two bars at the end of the cell, an irregular sinuous inner-discal transverse line, a similar sinuous medial-discal line, followed by an outer-discal row of rounded black spots, a submarginal sinuous line, a narrower more even outer line, and a narrow black outer border. The underside is paler yellowish-ochreous; all transverse markings are ill-defined, except for the lower discal black spots on the forewing. The outer discal and marginal lines on both wings are slightly bordered along their lunules by pale violaceous-grey. Dry-season form (male and female): Upperside is paler ochreous than the wet-season form; all basal and discal markings are very slender and more or less obsolescent, while outer discal and marginal markings remain distinct. The underside is paler than that of the wet-season form, but is otherwise similar in markings.
