About Phalaenostola eumelusalis Walker, 1859

Phalaenostola eumelusalis, commonly called the punctuated owlet or dark phalaenostola, is a moth species belonging to the family Erebidae. Francis Walker first described this species in 1859. It is distributed in North America, ranging from New Brunswick, North Dakota, and South Dakota east to Maine, and south to Georgia and Iowa. In the northern part of its range, it can also be found in Saskatchewan. The wingspan of this moth is approximately 25 millimeters. Adult moths are active between May and August, and there appear to be two generations produced each year. Larvae of Phalaenostola eumelusalis have been successfully reared using dead grass as a food source.
