About Phaeolepiota aurea (Matt.) Maire
This is a description of the mushroom species Phaeolepiota aurea (Matt.) Maire. The mushroom is large and golden, with a skirt-like ring on its stem. The cap can grow up to 20 centimetres (8 inches) wide, and the stem can reach up to 20 centimetres long. It has a mild odor, produces brown spores, and leaves a tannish spore print. In terms of distribution and habitat, Phaeolepiota aurea can be found across North America and Eurasia. It often grows in groups, and is commonly found growing next to nettles.
