About Phaeocollybia olivacea A.H.Sm.
The cap of Phaeocollybia olivacea is initially dark green, and later changes to brownish, orangish, or reddish olive green. When wet, the cap surface is slimy, and it measures 3.5 to 10 centimeters in diameter. The cap starts out conical in shape, and sometimes becomes convex with an umbo as it matures. The gills are pale yellowish when young, and mature to an olive or dull golden color. The stipe can grow up to 22 centimeters in total length, but most of this length lies underground, with only 7 to 14 centimeters visible above the ground. The stipe is between 8 millimeters and 2 centimeters wide, and tapers toward its end underground. This species produces a brownish spore print. Phaeocollybia olivacea occurs in mixed and coniferous forests, growing in clusters. It is a mycorrhizal species, and sometimes grows in fairy rings.
