About Phacelia linearis (Pursh) Holz.
Phacelia linearis (Pursh) Holz. is an annual herb that grows an erect stem that may be either branched or unbranched, reaching up to 60 centimeters, or 24 inches, tall. The entire plant is covered in either soft or stiff hairs. Its leaves are linear or lance-shaped, and are sometimes divided into multiple narrow, pointed lobes. The hairy inflorescence is a one-sided curving or coiling cyme made up of bell-shaped flowers. Each flower grows up to 1 centimeter long, is light purple in color, and has fused petals that form a paler tubular throat. Every flower has five stamens, and blooming occurs from April through June. This species is native to western North America, ranging from western Canada to Wyoming to northern California. It grows in open forest, juniper woodland, open scrub, and similar open habitats, most often in sandy or rocky soils located in dry areas.
