Phacelia divaricata is an annual herb with a growth habit ranging from decumbent to erect. Its stem may be branched or unbranched, and reaches a maximum length of 40 centimeters. Its leaves can grow up to 8 centimeters long, are oval in shape, and may have lobed or smooth edges. The inflorescence is covered in hairs, and forms a one-sided curving or coiling cyme that holds several funnel- or bell-shaped flowers. Each flower is 1 to 1.5 centimeters long, and pale lavender in color.
