About Pezotettix giornae (Rossi, 1794)
Pezotettix giornae (Rossi, 1794) is a small grasshopper species. Adult males of this species reach 11–14 millimetres (0.43–0.55 in) in length, while adult females grow to 12–18 millimetres (0.47–0.71 in) long. The basic body coloration of this grasshopper ranges from light brown to greyish. It has relatively large eyes, and the sides of its thorax sometimes show a white or darker longitudinal stripe. Its wings are scaly, oval, and very short, only reaching the middle of the second rear segment. Because of this short wing structure (a condition called brachyptery), Pezotettix giornae is unable to fly, and adults resemble the species' nymphs. Early stage nymphs of this species are usually green. This small grasshopper is found in Southern Europe, parts of Central Europe, North Africa, and the Near East. It lives in lowland meadows, forest edges, xerotherm plain areas, and the southern slopes of stony mountains.
