About Petalostylis labicheoides R.Br.
Petalostylis labicheoides is an upright, large, rounded shrub that grows 1 to 3 metres (3 feet 3 inches to 9 feet 10 inches) tall, and branches from its base. Its leaf rachis measures 1.5 to 6 centimetres (0.59 to 2.36 inches) long, and usually bears 5 to 21 alternate leaflets. The leaflets range in shape from lance to elliptic, or from oblong to oblong lance-shaped. They are 15 to 30 millimetres (0.59 to 1.18 inches) long, 4 to 8 millimetres (0.16 to 0.31 inches) wide, have occasional hairs, and taper to a pointed apex. The flowers of this species have three upper and two lower yellow to orange, egg-shaped petals. The petals are 20 millimetres (0.79 inches) long, with a reddish blotch at their centre. Flowering occurs mostly in spring. The fruit is a more or less flattened, leathery pod, 2 to 3 centimetres (0.79 to 1.18 inches) long. This species, commonly called butterfly bush, grows on rocky soils near watercourses, as well as on dunes, sand plains, and rocky ridges. It occurs in New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, and Western Australia.
