About Persoonia cornifolia A.Cunn. ex R.Br.
Persoonia cornifolia is an erect or spreading shrub that has hairy new young growth. Its leaves are elliptic to egg-shaped, measuring 20โ80 mm (0.79โ3.15 in) long and 10โ45 mm (0.39โ1.77 in) wide. The leaves are flat with edges that are more or less turned downwards, hairy when young and becoming glabrous as they mature. Flowers are arranged in small groups in leaf axils, with one scale leaf at the base of each individual flower. Each flower grows from the end of a densely hairy pedicel that is 1โ2 mm (0.039โ0.079 in) long. Each flower has four hairy tepals 10โ13 mm (0.39โ0.51 in) long, which are fused at the base and have rolled-back tips. The central style is surrounded by four yellow anthers that are also joined at the base with rolled-back tips, giving the structure a cross shape when viewed end-on. The ovary is usually hairy. Flowering takes place from December to February, and is followed by the development of green drupe fruit. This species of persoonia grows in woodland and forest habitats, occurring north from the Moonbi Range in north-eastern New South Wales, and also in south-eastern Queensland.
