About Persicaria chinensis (L.) H.Gross

Persicaria chinensis (L.) H.Gross is a perennial climbing plant that reaches a height of 2–3 meters. Its stems are glabrous, red-brown, and marked with longitudinal stripes. The leaf blades are oval, measuring 4–8 cm long and 3–5 cm wide, with a pointed apex and a round or nearly cordate base. Cymes form at the terminals of stems, growing 5–7 cm long and holding small white or pink flowers. The fruits are globose berries that become enclosed in an enlarged, fleshy calyx when mature. These ripe berries are edible and have a sour taste. The seeds of Persicaria chinensis are small and black.
