About Perizoma bifaciata (Haworth, 1809)
This species is small, with a wingspan ranging from 18 to 21 mm. It has a slender build and is generally brown across its entire body. The forewings can vary in colour from light golden brown to dark red brown, and often feature a wide, darker coloured band at their centre, though this characteristic can vary. On both sides, the central dark band is bordered by a wide, doubled, irregular white band. The outer edge of the wings has a white triangular marking. The hindwings are greyish-white. The larva is light grey-green and marked with short, white patches. For further taxonomic details, see the work of Prout. This species occurs across the Palearctic realm. Its larvae live near plants from the figwort family (Scrophulariaceae), specifically Odontites and large Euphrasia specimens. Unlike most geometer moths, this species hibernates in the pupal stage, and sometimes remains in hibernation for multiple years. Adult moths fly during July and August.
