About Perisama bomplandii
Perisama bomplandii has a wingspan of approximately 45–50 millimetres (1.8–2.0 inches). This species is the largest butterfly within the genus Perisama. Its wing coloration and pattern vary considerably between different subspecies. Typically, the upper surfaces of the wings are blue-black. Wide bands of golden green or blue cross the forewings obliquely, running from the costal margin to the inner margin. A small white spot is sometimes present close to the apex of the forewing. On the upper surface of the hindwings, the outer margins are bordered with greenish or bluish coloring, and the wing base has a bright brilliant blue marking. The underside of the forewings (anterior wings) is black, with a row of five blue spots, a brown inner margin, and a gray base followed by a light blue area. The apex and outer margin of the forewing underside are gray. The underside of the hindwings (posterior wings) is whitish or grayish, crossed by two black lines. The larvae of Perisama bomplandii feed on plant species in the genus Serjania. This species is distributed across Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela.
