About Perina nuda Fabricius, 1787
Adults of Perina nuda display clear, striking sexual dimorphism. The species' caterpillar has a greyish head and greyish flanks, with a broad black dorsal region. Its setae are white. The pupal stage is bristly, with a patchy piebald pattern of dark grey and cream, and the pupa's setae are orange. This caterpillar is classified as a minor pest that feeds on multiple banyan species, including Ficus benjamina, Ficus benghalensis, Ficus racemosa, Ficus pumila, and Ficus religiosa. It also acts as a minor pest on many crop plants from the genera Artocarpus and Mangifera. Perina nuda is known to be associated with an RNA virus named Perina nuda virus.
