About Peribatodes ilicaria (Geyer)
Peribatodes ilicaria, commonly known as the Lydd beauty, is a moth species belonging to the family Geometridae. It was first formally described by Carl Geyer in 1833. This species is distributed across Europe and North Africa. Its wingspan measures approximately 30 millimeters. Peribatodes ilicaria cannot be easily and certainly distinguished from several of its close relatives. To confirm identification, refer to the work of Townsend et al. These similar species are Peribatodes rhomboidaria ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775), Peribatodes secundaria ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775), Deileptenia ribeata (Clerck, 1759), and Alcis repandata (Linnaeus, 1758). All of these species have a grey-brown base color, with a darker cross band and lines that develop to varying degrees. Adult moths fly from July to September, with the exact timing differing by location. The larvae of this species feed on a wide variety of trees and shrubs.
