About Pentila tropicalis (Boisduval, 1847)

Pentila tropicalis, commonly known as the tropical pentila or spotted buff, is a butterfly species belonging to the family Lycaenidae. This species is found in eastern Africa. Males of Pentila tropicalis have a wingspan ranging from 29 to 38 mm, while females have a wingspan between 34 and 44 mm. The nominate subspecies P. t. tropicalis produces two generations each year, with active adult butterflies on wing in October and November, and again from January to April. Subspecies P. t. fuscipunctata has continuous broods from November to April. The larvae of Pentila tropicalis feed on cyanobacteria species.
