About Pelopidas mathias (Fabricius, 1798)
This species, Pelopidas mathias, was originally formally described in 1891 by Edward Yerbury Watson, whose description is reproduced below. For male individuals: The upperside of the wings is olive brown. The forewing has two small yellowish semi-transparent spots inside the end of the cell, three spots positioned before the apex, and three oblique discal spots, followed by a slender straight impressed glandular streak with dark borders. The hindwing has one or two very indistinct pale discal spots. For female individuals: The forewing has five discal spots, and the hindwing has four or five discal spots. The underside of the wings is paler than the upperside, and all markings are more distinct. The hindwing also has an additional spot at the upper end of the cell. The total wing expanse of this species is recorded as 1.6 inches, per Moore.
