About Pellenes seriatus (Thorell, 1875)
Pellenes seriatus (Thorell, 1875) is a species of jumping spider that belongs to the family Salticidae. This species occurs mainly across most of Europe. Adult individuals of this species reach an approximate body length of 6–7 millimetres, which equals 0.24–0.28 inches. They can most often be found on tree bark, sunny rocks, and in grasslands. Viewed from the front, males of this species look very similar to males of both Pellenes lapponicus and Hasarius adansoni. Males have a hairy body that is primarily black in basic coloration, with a white longitudinal stripe running down the middle of the opisthosoma and a bright red mask across the eyes. The opisthosoma itself may be either black or dark brownish. The tips of the pedipalps are whitish, while the legs are entirely black. Females of this species lack the distinct red mask that males have. Like other spiders in its group, Pellenes seriatus has eight eyes: the anterior median eyes are very large, and smaller eyes are positioned on each side of these large central eyes. This spider has excellent eyesight.
