About Passiflora rubra L.
Passiflora rubra, commonly known as Dutchman's laudanum, is a species in the plant family Passifloraceae. It is native to the entire West Indies, as well as Colombia, Venezuela, Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, and eastern Brazil. Vegetatively, Passiflora rubra is almost identical to Passiflora capsularis, but the two species can be told apart by their flowers and fruits. The flower ovaries of Passiflora rubra have a dense covering of white hairs, or less commonly brownish hairs. Its fruit, while variable in shape, is always obovoid. This differs from the fruit of Passiflora capsularis, which tapers at both ends.
