About Pasimachus mexicanus Gray, 1832
Pasimachus mexicanus Gray, 1832 is sometimes referred to as the greenish warrior beetle or Mexican warrior beetle in English. This beetle is defined by its large size and shiny green coloration. Like other species in the genus Pasimachus, it has powerful mandibles and follows a carnivorous diet. This species occurs on the Mexican Plateau in central Mexico, at elevations ranging from 1383 to 2474 meters above sea level. Adult beetles are ground-dwelling. During the day, they typically stay in burrows dug into the substrate, under stones, or under surface debris. The individual pictured in the taxonomy box, however, was found moving quickly across rocky ground in an overgrazed, semi-arid scrub area. This habitat is dominated mainly by tree cacti and mesquites, and the location was at an elevation of approximately 1900 meters, or approximately 6200 feet.
