About Partamona helleri (Friese, 1900)

Partamona helleri, commonly called Heller's stingless bee, is a species of stingless bee native to Brazil. This is an aggressive bee species. When threatened, it coils around a victim's hair or fur, and also nibbles the victim's skin with its mandibles. This species occurs in the Neotropical region of Brazil, ranging across the country from the southern region to the northeastern region. It has been recorded in the states of Bahia, Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, Paraná, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Rio de Janeiro, Santa Catarina, Sergipe and São Paulo.
