About Parsonsia brownii (Britten) Pichon
Scientific name: Parsonsia brownii (Britten) Pichon
This climbing species reaches 10 or more metres in height, and produces watery sap. Its glossy leaves are lanceolate, growing up to 20 centimetres long and 4 centimetres wide, and taper toward the tip. Juvenile leaves are narrower, and new growth is covered in down. Between August and December, it produces small, sweetly scented yellow and brown flowers arranged in loose terminal panicles. After flowering, it develops long, slender pods that measure 5 to 10 centimetres in length.
Parsonsia brownii is not commonly cultivated, and is considered too vigorous to suit most gardens. It requires cool, moist growing conditions, and can be purchased commercially from local indigenous plant nurseries.
