About Paropsisterna bimaculata

Paropsisterna bimaculata is a species of leaf beetle that belongs to the subfamily Chrysomelinae. This beetle is common in Tasmania, where it can act as a pest for the forestry industry. Just before entering winter hibernation, Paropsisterna bimaculata develops a red body color. When individuals emerge from hibernation, this red color slowly fades over about a month, leaving a pale green base color with faint gold patterned markings. Males generally complete this color change slightly earlier than females. This species has recently been recorded living in Victoria.
