About Parnara amalia (Semper, 1879)

Parnara amalia, commonly known as the hyaline swift or orange swift, is a species of butterfly belonging to the skipper family Hesperiidae. This species is found in Irian Jaya, Papua New Guinea, and the Australian states of New South Wales, the Northern Territory, and Queensland. Adults have an approximate wingspan of 30 millimeters. The larvae of Parnara amalia feed on various grasses, specifically including the common rice plant Oryza sativa and southern cutgrass Leersia hexandra. This butterfly may be involved in pollinating cashew plants.
