About Parmotrema submarginale (Michx.) DePriest & B.Hale

Parmotrema submarginale is a species of corticolous (bark-dwelling), foliose lichen that belongs to the Parmeliaceae family. It was first formally described as a new species in 1803 by French botanist André Michaux, who originally named it Lobaria submarginalis. Paula DePriest and Beatrice Hale transferred the species to the genus Parmotrema in 1998. This lichen has been recorded in Bolivia, Brazil, Costa Rica, Thailand, and the United States. A lichenicolous fungus called Paragyalideopsis floridae has been documented infecting Parmotrema submarginale in Florida.
