About Parmotrema hypoleucinum (Steiner) Hale

Parmotrema hypoleucinum is a species of foliose lichen belonging to the family Parmeliaceae. This species was first formally described scientifically in 1918 by Austrian lichenologist Julius Steiner, who classified it as a member of the genus Parmelia. In 1974, Mason Hale reclassified the species, transferring it to the genus Parmotrema. A study of Parmotrema hypoleucinum populations in Tunisia found that the lichen contains atranorin and (+)-iso-usnic acid, chemical compounds that are of interest for their anti-inflammatory activity.
