Pareulype berberata (Denis & Schiffermüller), 1775 has a wingspan of 27–32 mm. Its antennae are filiform. The forewings have a greyish base color, marked with dark brown and ash brown wavy transverse bands. The hindwings are pale and lack markings. Larvae of this species are brown, typically with a wavy white line along their sides. This species is distributed across most of Europe, including Austria, the Balearic Islands, Belgium, the British Islands, Bulgaria, Central European Russia, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Ukraine. It is also found in the Near East and North Africa. These moths are forest-dwelling (silvicolous), and occur mainly in deciduous, mixed and coniferous forests, forest clearings, and warm slopes, at elevations up to 1,000–1,500 metres (3,300–4,900 ft) above sea level.
