About Pardopsis punctatissima Boisduval, 1833
Pardopsis is a monotypic butterfly genus belonging to the family Nymphalidae. The genus contains only one species: Pardopsis punctatissima, commonly called the polka dot. This species is found in the fynbos of South Africa, lowland and Afromontane forest, and grassland habitats. Its distribution ranges from Van Stadens Pass in the Eastern Cape, along the foothills of the eastern escarpment into Mpumalanga and Limpopo, extending north to Mozambique and stretching from Zimbabwe to Ethiopia. It is also present in Madagascar. Males of this species have a wingspan of 30–34 mm, while females have a wingspan of 33–36 mm. Adult Pardopsis punctatissima are active year-round, with a peak in activity between October and March. The larvae of the species feed on Hybanthus capensis.
