About Parapoynx obscuralis Grote, 1881

Parapoynx obscuralis, commonly called the obscure pondweed moth, American china-mark, or vallisneria leafcutter, is a species of moth in the family Crambidae. This species was first described by Augustus Radcliffe Grote in 1881. In North America, its recorded range extends from Nova Scotia south to Florida, west to Texas, and north to Wisconsin and Ontario. It is also found in Great Britain, where it has become naturalized in aquatic nurseries after being accidentally introduced. The larvae of this moth are aquatic, and they feed on a variety of aquatic plants, including species from the genera Vallisneria, Potamogeton, and Nuphar.
