About Paranomus sceptrum-gustavianus (Sparrm.) Hyl.

This shrub species grows up to 1.8 m (5.9 ft) in height. Its lower leaves are finely divided, while the upper leaves are spoon-shaped or diamond-shaped. The flowers grow in clustered small heads that are 16–22 mm (0.63–0.87 in) long, arranged along cylindrical inflorescences. The shrub blooms between July and March. While fire will kill the mature plant, its seeds survive the fire. The plants are bisexual, and pollination is carried out by insects. The fruit ripens two months after flowering, after which the seeds fall to the ground and are dispersed by ants. This species is found from the Hottentots Holland Mountains to the western Langeberg, and also occurs on the Elim plains. It grows on sandstone slopes at altitudes ranging from 150 to 500 m (5.9–19.7 in).
