About Paranomus dregei (H.Buek ex Meisn.) Kuntze

This shrub, scientifically named Paranomus dregei (H.Buek ex Meisn.) Kuntze, is called Parfuumsepter in Afrikaans. It grows up to 1.7 m (5.6 ft) tall, and blooms primarily from May to October. While fire can kill the entire plant, its seeds survive the event. The species produces bisexual flowers that are pollinated by insects. The fruit ripens two months after flowering, after which seeds fall to the ground. Ants are responsible for spreading the seeds once they have fallen. In terms of distribution and habitat, the plant grows in a range extending from Witteberg to the Swartberg, Anysberg, Touwsberg, Rooiberg, Kouga Mountains, and Outeniqua Mountains. It grows in sandstone-derived sand at altitudes between 900–1,400 m (3,000–4,600 ft).
