About Paramesia gnomana (Clerck, 1759)

Paramesia gnomana has a wingspan that measures approximately 16 to 20 millimeters, or 0.63 to 0.79 inches. It is similar in appearance to Clepsis spectrana, but is paler in color. Adult moths of this species fly from June through August. Its caterpillars are polyphagous: they feed between May and June on a wide variety of host plants, including herbaceous plants, shrubs, and trees. They feed especially often on bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus), Stachys species, Iris species, plantain (Plantago species), and dandelion (Taraxacum species). This species can be found across most of Europe and in the Near East. It favors dry grassland habitats.
