About Parablechnum cordatum (Desv.) Gasper & Salino
Parablechnum cordatum, with synonyms Blechnum cordatum and Blechnum chilense, is commonly known as the Chilean hard fern, or costilla de vaca, which translates to "cow's rib" in Chilean Spanish. It is a species of fern in the family Blechnaceae, native to Chile. It can also be found in neighboring parts of Argentina and the Juan Fernández Islands. Mature plants reach 0.9–1.8 m (2 ft 11 in – 5 ft 11 in) in height, and often develop a trunk-like appearance as they age. Fertile fronds of this fern are more erect, and have narrower pinnae, than infertile fronds. This species has received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
