About Papaver arenarium M.Bieb.

Papaver arenarium M.Bieb. is a flowering plant species that belongs to the poppy family Papaveraceae. This species is native to the Caucasus and Caspian regions. Unlike most other members of the genus Papaver, both Papaver arenarium and Papaver bracteatum do not follow the typical morphine-producing biochemical pathway. For example, at the biosynthetic step where Papaver somniferum produces morphine, Papaver arenarium instead produces N-demethylcodeine.
