The common stalk borer, with the scientific name Papaipema nebris Guenée, 1852, is a moth species belonging to the family Noctuidae. Its range extends from southern Canada, through the eastern United States east of the Rocky Mountains, to the Gulf of Mexico; it is not found in Florida. This species has a wingspan measuring 25 to 44 mm. Adult moths fly from June to September, with flight timing varying by location. The larvae of this moth are known as a pest of corn, and also feed on many other large-stemmed plants including Ambrosia trifida.
