About Papaipema marginidens Guenée, 1852

Papaipema marginidens, commonly known as the brick-red borer moth, is a species of moth native to North America. It was first formally described by Achille Guenée in 1852. Its range covers eastern North America, extending from Pennsylvania and New York in the north southward to Georgia and North Carolina. This species is currently listed as endangered in the U.S. state of Connecticut. Its typical habitat is a mix of open oak woodlands and barrens located in rocky areas with herbaceous undergrowth, and this habitat is especially common along streams. The wingspan of adult brick-red borer moths reaches approximately 42 mm. The larvae of this species feed on a variety of herbaceous plants, including Cicuta maculata.
